XPeng IRON Robot's Solid-State Batteries Enter Small-Batch Production
XPeng Group Vice President Gu Jie said the solid-state batteries for the company’s IRON robot have rolled off the line in small-batch production, according to Yicai. The robot itself remains in the pre-SOP stage, meaning it has not yet reached start of production. The update points to progress in moving solid-state battery technology from lab validation toward limited manufacturing. Solid-state batteries are widely pursued for their potential to offer higher energy density and improved safety versus conventional lithium-ion packs, which could matter for embodied AI platforms that need reliable power in mobile, human-facing applications. Still, small-batch output is an early step: XPeng has not disclosed volume targets, cell specifications or a timeline for full-scale production. The next milestone will be SOP, when the IRON robot moves closer to commercial deployment.
