Guangzhou Steps Up Investment Promotion as Emerging-Sector Activity Rises
At a press conference by the Guangdong Provincial People's Government Information Office for the 2026 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Global Investment Conference, Han Zhenxiang, full-time deputy director of the Guangzhou Investment Development Commission Office, presented the city's investment promotion plan. Guangzhou has designated 2026 as its investment promotion year, launching a full-year, all-staff and all-region campaign to attract investment and guide social capital toward emerging fields.
In the first three quarters, Guangzhou newly introduced more than 2,200 filed and registered projects, with total planned investment of 349.3 billion yuan, up 149% year on year. The city reported that investment activity strengthened markedly in emerging sectors including semiconductors and integrated circuits, intelligent equipment and robotics, biomedicine and health, artificial intelligence, and new energy and new storage.
Investment projects also accelerated implementation. Fixed asset investment completed by Guangzhou's investment promotion projects in the first three quarters rose 20.6% year on year, according to Shanghai Securities News. The data indicates that signed projects are increasingly moving into construction and capital formation, a key step for turning investment commitments into industrial capacity.
Guangzhou is using the 2026 Greater Bay Area conference to showcase its industrial base and policy support, with the aim of attracting domestic and overseas enterprises in high-tech manufacturing and strategic emerging industries. The city's focus on robotics, AI and semiconductors aligns with broader efforts in the Greater Bay Area to build resilient supply chains and deepen cross-border collaboration.
