Grooved Fiber Actuator in Science Advances Reshapes Soft-Robot Control Logic
Researchers have reported a soft actuator built from a single grooved fiber in Science Advances. Instead of relying on complex multi-material layering or external valves, the fiber’s internal channels guide pressure-driven deformation, allowing bending, twisting and combined motions to be programmed through cross-sectional geometry. The design is presented as a way to simplify actuation logic while retaining compact form factors for soft robots.
