Agility and GXO expand Digit humanoid deployments at U.S. logistics sites
Agility Robotics and GXO Logistics said they are expanding their partnership to deploy Agility’s Digit humanoid at additional U.S. GXO sites. The companies have collaborated since 2023, when GXO became the first customer to use Digit in live operations under a commercial agreement.
Agility CEO Peggy Johnson said GXO was the first customer to put Digit to work under a commercial agreement and that expanding to more sites is the clearest signal the value is real. She said customers are moving beyond asking whether humanoids can work to deciding where to scale them.
Johnson said real work in GXO’s operations has shaped how Agility builds, deploys and supports Digit, and that the company is focused on disciplined execution.
Founded in 2015, Agility Robotics said Digit has logged more than 65,000 hours of real-world operation while working with industry safety standards. The Salem, Ore.-based company recently received SEC approval for its planned merger with SPAC Churchill Capital Corp. XI as it prepares to go public.
In 2024, Digit earned Agility the inaugural RBR50 Robot of the Year award for being one of the first humanoids to enter commercial trials. It received 2026 honors for moving more than 100,000 totes for GXO last year. This month, Agility chose Nyobolt for fast charging, expanded its NVIDIA partnership and said it plans to deploy Digit at an AGCO factory in 2027.
Spun out of XPO Inc. in 2021, GXO Logistics describes itself as the world’s largest pure-play contract logistics provider. It has more than 150,000 employees across over 1,000 facilities totaling more than 200 million sq. ft.
GXO and Agility first deployed Digit in late 2023 at a facility in Flowery Branch, Ga. The companies called it the industry’s first commercial deployment of humanoid robots in live operations and the first robotics-as-a-service agreement for humanoids.
Since then, Digit has moved more than 100,000 totes at Flowery Branch, demonstrating reliable repetitive material handling in an active logistics environment. The robot uses the Agility Arc cloud-based fleet management platform and has worked alongside existing automation to move totes onto conveyors.
GXO CEO Patrick Kelleher said innovation is most powerful when it delivers practical solutions that create value for customers and employees. He said the Agility partnership has been defined by a shared commitment to turning emerging technologies into real-world operational advantage.
He said the expansion reflects confidence that the technology can create measurable customer value and a better working environment.
