Shangwei New Materials Jumps 17% as Brokerage Flags Accelerating Robotics Demand
Shangwei New Materials, a robotics-concept stock, jumped more than 17% intraday on Oct. 26, drawing attention as sentiment around the robotics sector strengthened. The intraday gain highlights investors' growing interest in the company's transition toward robotics. According to a Huafu Securities research note, the company currently has seven robotics R&D projects in progress, with planned total investment of about RMB 405 million. Its robotics R&D team has expanded to 180 people, suggesting it is accelerating technology reserves and product development for the segment.
The brokerage also noted that Shangwei's R&D expense ratio rose sharply to 22.46% in the first quarter of 2026, as its robotics business entered a phase of concentrated investment. That has put short-term pressure on profits. Huafu expects demand in the robotics industry to accelerate, and says the company's earlier R&D spending may gradually translate into business growth, though the pace of investment and commercialization still needs monitoring.
