Private Startup Behind Fujian Humanoid Robot Hub Raises Pre-A+ Funding
On October 23, Fujian Humanoid Robot Innovation Center Co., Ltd. announced the close of a Pre-A+ funding round. The investors were Fuzhou Gulou District Urban Construction Investment Development Group Co., Ltd. and Xiamen Hangzhi Liangshu Future Technology Incubator Co., Ltd. The announcement initially appeared to be another state-backed humanoid robotics hub securing capital.
A closer look at the equity structure shows a different picture. The controlling shareholder is Xiamen Humanoid Robot Innovation Center Co., Ltd., which is not state-owned but personally held by founder Lin Qi. The company carries an innovation-center name that sounds like a government platform, yet operates as a private startup.
That combination—a state-style title over a private core—is described as extremely rare among China’s 22 provincial-level humanoid robot innovation centers. It also highlights how private founders can use public-facing innovation platforms while retaining control.
The company is known for promoting a 9,900-yuan humanoid robot, a price point intended to push down the industry’s cost curve. The funding and structure suggest investors are backing both the low-cost hardware approach and the founder-led operating model.
The deal remains a Pre-A+ round, so the immediate result is capital for a young private player rather than a broad sector shift. Still, the case illustrates a notable exception in a field where provincial innovation centers are often assumed to be state-directed. Its significance lies in a founder-controlled private entity using an innovation-center identity to raise funds.
