Nvidia Weighs $1B for Figure; China Holds 77.9% of Humanoid Shipments
Nvidia has discussed adding about $1 billion to Figure at a roughly $38 billion pre-money valuation, according to reporting summarized by Leaderobot. IDC data cited in the same set put global humanoid shipments near 25,000 units in the first half of 2026, up 432.1% year on year, with China holding about 77.9% of that volume. The two figures sit at opposite ends of the same curve: a compute supplier pricing platform-level demand against a shipment base still measured in tens of thousands.
Deployment evidence moved toward production logistics. UBTech's Oct. 8 agreement with FAW-Volkswagen extends its robots from quality inspection into factory logistics and adds a demonstration site at a mainstream automaker. Amazon's reported $100 million robotics factory investment targets fulfillment automation, where labor cost dominates unit economics. Read together, the near-term revenue case rests on material handling inside existing facilities, not on general-purpose capability.
Iteration cost is falling on the development side. The Chinese Academy of Sciences' Institute of Automation built a facility that automates hardware design and algorithm selection, compressing humanoid development cycles to about two weeks. Beijing Institute of Technology researchers reported in a Science sub-journal that quadrupeds can run faster through revised running logic without motor upgrades. Both reduce capital required per design cycle, which matters more while order books remain thin.
Robustness and perception are emerging as gating variables. Deep Robotics tested its humanoid in wind and rain over the National Day holiday, generating outdoor field data. Mech-Mind demonstrated 3D perception of transparent and reflective parts at VISION 2026, a class of objects that routinely breaks industrial vision systems.
Two observation points follow. First, whether valuation multiples tied to compute demand are validated by logistics orders in 2026, given a half-year shipment base near 25,000 units; analysts cited by Leaderobot argue embodied AI cannot inherit autonomous driving's timetable, since task complexity, data collection and evaluation differ. Second, whether China's 77.9% shipment share extends upstream, or remains concentrated at integration while compute and perception toolchains are supplied elsewhere.
