Oriental Precision's Robot Story Still OEM Despite 867% Profit Surge
A semi-annual report showing a 867.75% year-on-year net profit increase might normally be cause for celebration. But examining Oriental Precision's (002611.SZ) results reveals a more complex picture.
The company, once a 'leading global supplier of corrugated packaging equipment,' reported net profit attributable to shareholders of 3.846 billion yuan for the first half of 2026, up 867.75% year-on-year. However, after deducting non-recurring gains, the actual operating profit was only a fraction of that figure.
The massive profit surge was primarily driven by the sale of its cash-cow corrugated packaging business. Meanwhile, its robotics segment, which the company has been touting, still relies heavily on OEM manufacturing rather than proprietary core technology.
This raises questions about whether the company's transformation story holds substance, as the market values the robotics concept but the actual business remains in its early, low-margin stages.
