Humanoid Robots Take Sanitation Jobs as Qiaoyin Partners With National Center
On September 7, 2026, Qiaoyin City Management Co. signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the National Local Joint Humanoid Robot Innovation Center.
The two parties will jointly build the country's first application hub for urban-service embodied AI humanoid robots, channeling a national technology platform's R&D capacity directly into Qiaoyin's real operational scenarios in urban sanitation, property management and related fields.
Notably, Qiaoyin is the only nationwide livelihood- and urban-service-oriented scenario partner selected by the national center, meaning the center's technology will first be tested on the front lines of sanitation work.
Under the agreement, the two sides will co-develop two product lines — full-function and specialized urban-service embodied robots — and build real-world training showcases based on Qiaoyin projects such as Hailongwei in Guangzhou's Liwan district and central Maoming.
Qiaoyin president Xia Guanming gave a clear timetable: complete scenario validation and product version lock for sanitation operations at the Liwan project by the end of this year, and achieve deployment in the Maoming integrated project next year. This is not a demonstration, he says, but a full closed-loop operation running from product definition to real-world verification.
The collaboration chain spans product definition, skill development, iterative optimization and real-world deployment — the most critical stages for bringing humanoid robots into service.
Why urban services? Scene selection determines success. Factories offer controlled environments and standardized tasks, making them the current main battleground. Urban service scenarios, however, carry distinct advantages: relatively fixed workflows, clear efficiency metrics and a steadily widening labor gap.
Qiaoyin has worked in urban services for more than two decades, accumulating a large volume of real operational scenarios and data. The value of that data lies in its origin — real roads, real communities and real weather, rather than ideal laboratory conditions.
As a national-level core innovation platform, the center has built the world's first heterogeneous humanoid robot training ground and has led the drafting of more than 90 industry standards.
Its executive vice president Liu Yufei said the two sides will base their work on genuine urban-service needs, quickly advance the first deployment projects, build model demonstration zones and accumulate industry data and a standardized application system.
2026 is billed as the "first year of mass production" for humanoid robots. According to Counterpoint Research, global humanoid robot shipments exceeded 22,000 units in the first half of the year, up nearly 300% year on year.
But shipments do not equal work output: entertainment performances and educational data collection still account for more than 60%, while fewer than 20% actually enter factories and warehouses.
Sanitation offers a landing path between factory and home: environmental complexity higher than a factory but lower than a home, relatively clear task boundaries and quantifiable efficiency. It is precisely the meeting point of current technical capability and commercial demand.
Xia Guanming said the partners will jointly refine the business model for industrializing urban-service humanoid robots, ultimately forming a standardized, mass-producible and replicable product system. When robots genuinely begin sweeping streets, urban services will have taken a substantive step toward intelligence.
