Shanghai Launches Intelligent Manufacturing Action, Targeting 8,000 Humanoid Robots by 2028

On October 12, at the opening ceremony of the 26th China International Industry Fair, Shanghai officially launched the "Action to Accelerate the Development of a New Generation of Intelligent Manufacturing." The initiative comprises four major projects and 19 key tasks, all aimed at deeply integrating artificial intelligence with manufacturing and rapidly constructing a next-generation intelligent manufacturing system.

A central objective of the action is to propel 8,000 humanoid robots into factories by 2028, signaling Shanghai's ambition to lead in advanced robotics and smart production. This aligns with the city's broader strategy to enhance industrial automation and maintain global competitiveness.

Shanghai has already cultivated two national leading-level and 28 national excellent-level smart factories, a number that has ranked first among Chinese cities for many years. Its intelligent manufacturing comprehensive index also places it at the top among cities in the Yangtze River Delta region, according to official assessments.

The city's intelligent manufacturing system integration industry scale exceeds 60 billion yuan, while its intelligent manufacturing equipment output value surpasses 150 billion yuan. This makes Shanghai the largest domestic cluster for intelligent manufacturing system integration and equipment, underscoring its pivotal role in China's industrial upgrade.
