Home Robots Start Small: Qiyuan’s Q1 Bets on Real Households

A device that is 88 cm tall, weighs 15 kg, and fits in a backpack is neither a toy nor a pet. Qiyuan Robotics is preparing to deliver its Q1.

Qiyuan is the consumer robotics business of Swancor Advanced Materials, and it also has a transformable robot, T1. Two years ago the industry was proving humanoids could walk, run, and work in factories; now the question is whether ordinary people will let a robot stay in their homes.

Tian Hua, CEO of Swancor Advanced Materials, frames the bet directly: a personal robot is not an industrial robot moved into the home, nor an AI toy made by putting a large model into a hardware shell. He sees it as a still-forming new species of human-robot interaction.

In the long run, personal robots could become the next major interface after keyboards, screens, smartphones, and smart speakers—a physical carrier linking AI and digital services to real life.

Factory environments are structured: fixed routes, predictable lighting, repetitive tasks. Homes are the opposite. Chairs move, toys appear on the floor, pets wander, and the same cup is in the kitchen today and the bedroom tomorrow. That unpredictability is why homes are harder than factories.

Qiyuan therefore did not start with a full-size humanoid promising to do everything. The Q1 is deliberately small: 88 cm tall, aimed at companionship, entertainment, and embodied AI development.

Its 15 kg weight, combined with torque sensing and force control, reduces safety risks around children and elderly users while also lowering power consumption. The T1 takes another path: about one meter tall, it switches between a wheeled humanoid form indoors and a quadruped form for grass, gravel, and slopes.

Together, the two designs point to a broader industry shift: the most useful consumer robot may not be the most humanlike, but the one that best fits how people live.

Similar directions are being tested abroad. 1X, a U.S.-Norwegian joint venture, has opened preorders for its NEO home robot. South Korea's LG Electronics has built a wheeled dual-arm robot designed to work with smart appliances.

For Swancor, the real test is not appearance but moving from prototype to mass production. The company disclosed that in the first half of 2026 its consumer embodied AI robot business received RMB 210 million in prepayments, with RMB 164 million in related R&D spending and a robotics R&D team of about 180 people.

On capacity, Swancor is working with Lens Intelligent Robot, under Lens Technology. The first production line is planned at the ten-thousand-unit level, covering precision parts processing, joint module production, and final assembly. In Guangzhou, it is also partnering with Shangpin Home Collection on so-called robot-friendly homes, integrating furniture, smart control, and robot systems so machines can locate and handle household items more easily.

Tian says Swancor's materials background is not incidental. Many technical problems ultimately become materials problems, and its work in lightweight, eco-friendly, high-strength materials can be applied to robot bodies. Some key materials are expected to be supplied internally after product launch. If that logic works, it would add a buffer to cost structure and supply-chain autonomy compared with pure assemblers.

Wang Feili, a China industrials analyst at UBS Securities, is more cautious. She says humanoid robots have not reached a true commercialization inflection point; industrial scenarios are more likely to scale first in the next three to five years, while the home remains the most promising but more distant market.

Seen alongside Qiyuan's small-Q1 strategy, that suggests pragmatism: enter homes first with acceptable size, weight, and price, and get companionship and development scenarios running, rather than waiting for a full-size product that can do everything.

The threshold for the home market is not a technology demo. It is whether a robot can still reliably complete a small task when chairs are moved, toys are scattered, and a pet suddenly crosses the room. Delivery of the Q1 and T1 is only the start; the real question is whether, after several months in real homes, users still want them in the living room.
