Magic Atom Partners with Shibei to Build Shanghai's Embodied AI Hub
A strategic agreement signed during WAIC 2026 has quickly transformed into a concrete action plan. The partnership between Shanghai Shibei High-Tech and Magic Atom is accelerating from framework to implementation at an unprecedented pace.
Founded in January 2024, Magic Atom has become one of the few embodied AI companies with full-stack self-developed capabilities, achieving 90% autonomy in core algorithms and hardware. Its product lineup includes humanoid robots MagicBot Gen1 and Z1, and the quadruped MagicDog series.
In April 2026, the company unveiled its native world model Magic-Mix, a breakthrough in physical cognition. At WAIC, robots completed complex long-horizon tasks like box-folding and sealing with over 90% success—a first for general-purpose embodied AI.
Magic Atom also delivered the world's first 100-unit quadruped swarm performance at the 2026 CCTV Spring Festival Gala. It has commercialized nine scenarios and launched the "Thousand Scenes Co-creation" plan, while leading a provincial key lab.
This cooperation is about platform co-building and ecosystem cultivation, not traditional investment attraction. The Shanghai Embodied Intelligence & Model Co-Innovation Center will be located in Shibei International Science Park, with over 100 staff focusing on data and model evaluation.
Its core business includes data production (real-machine multimodal data with a closed loop), model evaluation (real-world testing), and scenario validation (deploying MagicBot in Jing'an's commercial and government settings). The center will align with MIIT's "Model-Data Resonance" tasks.
Shibei offers a complete ecosystem—from computing power (DataPort, Silang) to perception (Jiqing) to applications (China Telecom, Casco). It also has scarce industrial R&D land in central Shanghai, enabling lab-to-product transformation.
For Magic Atom, this partnership leverages Shanghai's innovation resources, extending its footprint from Wuxi. For Shibei, it fills the gap in embodied AI model R&D, creating a flywheel: hardware generates data, data trains algorithms, algorithms guide hardware. This deep coupling will clear the path for Shanghai's embodied AI commercialization.
