Humanoid Robot Applications Still Early-Stage, Cost and Tech Hurdles Remain
Recently, Wang Xingxing, chairman, general manager, and CTO of Unitree Technology, stated that humanoid robot applications are still in the early exploration stage, with pilot trials in enterprises that have specific needs for automation and intelligence. He made these remarks at an industry conference, highlighting the current status of humanoid robotics.
Compared with industrial robots and mobile robots, humanoid robots offer better adaptability and flexibility in certain scenarios, such as human-centric environments. This enables them to perform tasks that require complex movements and dexterity, which are more challenging for traditional robotic systems. As a result, they are seen as promising for future applications in service, manufacturing, and other sectors.
However, their large-scale adoption is still hindered by several factors, including high costs, technological challenges, and limited market acceptance. Wang emphasized that overcoming these two key bottlenecks—cost and technology—is essential for the industry's growth. He also noted that continuous innovation and collaboration across the ecosystem will be crucial to accelerating progress.
