China's Shipping Industry Accelerates Smart, Green Transition as 2026 North Bund Forum Nears
The 2026 North Bund International Shipping Forum, jointly hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Government and the Ministry of Transport, will be held in Shanghai on October 20-21. The announcement was made at a press conference on September 15. Under the theme "Common Challenges, Common Mission—Jointly Promoting Resilient Development of Global Shipping," the event aims to address shared challenges facing the industry.
The forum will release a batch of major achievements and bring together guests from over 50 countries and regions. Participants will discuss key topics including maritime safety, finance and insurance, digital intelligence, and green low-carbon development. It serves as a platform for industry leaders, policymakers, and experts to exchange views and foster international collaboration.
The Ministry of Transport noted that China's shipping industry is accelerating the application of artificial intelligence and its green low-carbon transition. The scale and technological level of automated terminals remain globally leading, while new breakthroughs are being made in green fuel bunkering and zero-carbon terminal construction. These efforts highlight the sector's commitment to sustainable and intelligent growth.
The forum is expected to further consolidate Shanghai's role as a global shipping hub and promote cooperation in addressing climate and technological challenges. China's progress in smart and green shipping is seen as a significant contribution to the resilience of global supply chains. It also highlights the need for joint efforts to ensure a sustainable future for global trade.
