Nvidia Plans $2B European AI Investment, Funds French Startups
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced that the company plans to unveil $2 billion in European AI investments next week. This new commitment follows $8 billion that Nvidia has already invested in the region over the past year, highlighting the company's deepening engagement with Europe's AI sector.
In addition to the broader investment plan, Nvidia revealed new funding for four French AI startups. These are Doctolib, a health technology company; Genesis AI, a robotics firm; Pigment, a business software provider; and Entalpic, which specializes in chemistry and materials research. The investments aim to support innovation across diverse sectors in France.
Huang urged Europe to accelerate its AI development, stressing the importance of open-source models, technological sovereignty, and robotics. He said, "Europe needs to join this race." His comments underscore the urgency for Europe to enhance its competitiveness in artificial intelligence. The emphasis on open-source models and technological sovereignty reflects broader European concerns about digital autonomy.
The announcements came as Nvidia continues to expand its global footprint in AI, a field where competition is intensifying. By backing French startups, Nvidia signals its support for Europe's AI ecosystem and its potential to drive advancements in key areas. The investments are part of Nvidia's broader strategy to foster AI innovation globally.
