Serve Robotics to Deploy Autonomous Delivery Robots with Grubhub
Serve Robotics, a developer of sidewalk delivery robots, has announced a partnership with Grubhub, a subsidiary of Wonder. The collaboration will bring robotic deliveries to the Grubhub marketplace in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Alexandria, Va.
In Chicago, over 100 participating Grubhub merchants will offer Serve's delivery service, while nearly 200 merchants will do so in Los Angeles. Additional restaurants are expected to join the program over time. As part of the partnership, Wonder's Alexandria location will use Serve's autonomous network for robot deliveries.
Serve has also expanded into two new markets: Washington, D.C., and San Jose, Calif., both in partnership with DoorDash.
In San Jose, Serve's first Bay Area market, robots have completed their first month of deliveries. In Washington, D.C., Serve robots will deliver in Dupont Circle and parts of downtown.
Ali Kashani, co-founder and CEO of Serve Robotics, commented on the expansion, noting that not long ago the company's robots were delivering dinner in only a few neighborhoods. Today, they are rolling into new cities, from San Jose, California's third largest city, to the nation's capital. He also mentioned that their hospital counterparts, the new Moxi robots from Diligent Robotics, are appearing in health systems across the country, referring to the acquisition of Diligent Robotics.
Kashani further stated that welcoming Wonder and Grubhub to the network is the clearest signal yet of where the company is headed. He added that every new partner puts more robots to work, and every delivery makes the whole fleet smarter.
Serve is launching its first microdepot in Miami as part of its continued expansion. The company describes this as an innovative class of small-footprint operating sites that handle robot staging, charging, dispatch, and maintenance without the build-out time of a full-scale facility.
Microdepots require minimal infrastructure and can be set up rapidly in high-demand neighborhoods. Serve says this provides a repeatable model for entering new neighborhoods and cities faster and at lower cost.
