Amazon Deploys Over 1 Million Robots While Human Workforce Tops 1.5 Million
Amazon has deployed more than 1 million robots across its global warehouses, operating around the clock to support the delivery of tens of millions of same-day and next-day packages every day. The fleet is the largest operated by any organization, underscoring the scale of the company’s logistics automation.
The company is also preparing to expand that robot workforce significantly in the coming years. New facilities designed for mass production are expected to make it easier to build and deploy robots at greater scale, strengthening Amazon’s automation capacity. The figures come as Amazon continues to invest in robotics and logistics infrastructure while remaining a major source of jobs.
Automation has not eliminated human roles. According to Amazon’s 2025 annual report, the company remains the world’s second-largest corporate employer, with more than 1.5 million full-time and part-time employees. For policymakers and workers, the key question is how quickly those roles will change and what new skills will be required.
The contrast highlights a dual strategy: robots take on repetitive warehouse tasks, while people remain essential to operations. How Amazon balances the two will influence productivity, labor demand and workforce planning as automation accelerates.
