Robots Rally, AI Models Slip: Why the AI Trade Can’t Fly on Two Wings
The rotation inside the AI trade is accelerating. On Oct. 20, A-share and Hong Kong markets diverged sharply: embodied intelligence and humanoid robot concepts strengthened across the board, while the AI large-model sector that had previously led Hong Kong stocks fell notably.
In A-shares, more than 10 humanoid robot stocks hit their daily limit-up. Unitree Technology (688836.SH) surged more than 11% in early trading, lifting its total market capitalization above 210 billion yuan.
The split suggests investors are shifting from model-layer narratives toward hardware and embodiment plays. Robot-themed names benefited from policy expectations and commercialization hopes, while large-model stocks faced profit-taking after recent gains. That rotation may continue as investors seek clearer earnings visibility.
The divergence also underscores a persistent question for the AI rally: whether robots and large models can rise together. For now, capital appears to favor embodied AI as the more tangible near-term theme, even as model developers remain central to the longer-term story.
