China Telecom's TeleAI Incubates Gamma Robotics to Advance Humanoid Robot Industrialization
Gamma Robotics, a humanoid-robot startup incubated by China Telecom Artificial Intelligence Institute (TeleAI), has been registered in Shanghai’s Xuhui District and has moved into Modu Space, according to Leaderobot. The company is TeleAI’s first market-oriented innovation venture and will focus on full-model innovation and applications for self-evolving humanoid robots.
Under the plan, Gamma Robotics will co-build a humanoid-robot laboratory with TeleAI. The partners intend to combine institute research with product engineering so that laboratory results can be converted into services and products for real industrial scenarios, rather than remaining at the demonstration stage. The lab is expected to support joint testing and iteration with industrial partners.
Funding and governance details were also disclosed. Gamma Robotics has received strategic investment from China Telecom (Shanghai) AI Industry Private Equity Fund. Li Xuelong, China Telecom Group CTO, chief scientist and dean of TeleAI, will serve as scientific advisor. Dr. Bai Chenjia is founder and CEO.
The setup highlights a model in which a telecom operator’s AI research arm spins out a market-facing robotics company and pairs it with dedicated capital and laboratory resources. For Shanghai’s AI cluster, the venture adds a humanoid-robot platform that aims to connect model innovation, talent and industrial demand. Its progress will be watched as a test of whether TeleAI’s research pipeline can shorten the path from embodied-AI prototypes to deployable products.
