IDC: Humanoid Shipments Near 25,000 in H1, AgiBot Leads
IDC data puts global humanoid robot shipments in the first half of 2026 near 25,000 units, up 432.1% year on year, with China accounting for 77.9% of volume. AgiBot ranked first on both shipment scale and revenue, a combination that carries more information than unit counts alone.
The commercial side moved in the same direction. AgiBot has placed 100 robots into retail stores, and a Chinese embodied AI data company closed close to 100 million yuan while working with Nvidia and Huawei, indicating that physical AI data pipelines now attract both capital and chip-vendor alignment. Deployment and data infrastructure are converging as the binding constraint shifts from hardware availability toward operating cost.
Hardware roadmaps advanced on manipulation and endurance. Figure trained robots to jump autonomously, shipped them to Finland and decommissioned them into molten steel, a validation step for actuator reliability under extreme conditions. Sharpa's W01 hand claims 180 FPS on-host inference, with the SE variant running 30 FPS plus a dynamic tactile array, pushing continuous five-finger in-hand manipulation toward deployable specifications.
Policy and intellectual property set the outer frame. The US Department of Defense is establishing a four-star joint command for autonomous and robotic combat, formalizing military demand at the highest organizational level. Leaderobot reports China holds 60% of humanoid robot patents, which raises the harder question of patent quality and commercial conversion rather than filing volume.
Two observation points follow. Safety remains the gating precondition: roboticist Aaron Ames notes that jumping and kickboxing demonstrations still outpace safeguards around people, and absent certifiable standards social deployment will lag. Boston Dynamics cites its Spot and Stretch commercialization record as evidence for Atlas, so the test for Chinese scale leaders is whether fielded units convert into service revenue at comparable rates.
