Keenon's XMAN Humanoid Robot K仔 Wears Couture at Beijing Fashion Show
On September 16, the annual couture show of LACAVA Yiding, a brand founded by designer Zou Yu YOYO, opened in Beijing under the theme “East Glory — Silk Manuscripts and Wandering Spirits.” The show drew on ancient silk-painting mythology, reproduced patterns from old scrolls, and placed intangible cultural heritage craft between the structured silhouettes of menswear and the flowing skirts of womenswear.
One highlight was K仔, an XMAN humanoid robot from Keenon Intelligent. Wearing a brand-exclusive custom couture outfit, the robot sat in the front row. In the antique-style venue, K仔 appeared as a special guest, adding a layer of artificial intelligence to the fashion narrative and becoming a focal point where tradition and technology met.
Designing couture for a robot required accounting for walking motion. K仔 stands 136 cm tall, carries 42 biomimetic degrees of freedom, and uses an all-metal, high-rigidity body with a modular design. To fit K仔’s proportions and gait, Zou Yu tailored this crossover couture specifically for the machine, seeking a balance between traditional aesthetics and robotic movement performance.
The outfit uses traditional Chinese Xiangyunsha as its core fabric, paired with hand-painted and hand-embroidered bead details. The design blends Eastern and Western approaches: it keeps a Chinese stand collar, applies Western tailoring to the jacket, and adds slits in the sleeves so the robot can walk and move freely. The trousers use a specially customized textured material, allowing K仔’s silver biomimetic legs to appear and disappear as it moves.
Zou Yu said she hoped to create a robot image that breaks with tradition, carries Eastern heritage, and fits contemporary aesthetic sensibilities. K仔 has already been invited to appear at multiple fashion events and is called a “cyber KOL” in fashion circles. Keenon Intelligent’s main business is commercial service robots, with products providing delivery and service in restaurants, hotels, and medical settings. The XMAN humanoid robot is its product line aimed at general-purpose humanoids.
A robot entering fashion week may look like a runway appearance or a front-row seat, but it actually responds to fashion brands’ demand for exposure to technology elements. Placing a humanoid robot in the front row, dressed in specially designed couture, gives the brand a set of visually topical assets. The robotics company, in turn, gains brand exposure in a non-industrial setting. For both sides, the collaboration is cost-controllable and the communication effect is direct.
Traditional intangible cultural heritage craft, haute couture, and artificial intelligence shared the same stage. Through clothing as a medium, the show expressed a vision of tradition and technology coexisting. The act of a robot wearing couture is not itself a technical breakthrough, but it shows that humanoid robot applications are extending from factories and showrooms into culture, entertainment, and fashion.
From an industry perspective, such collaborations do not aim to show new locomotion or manipulation. They let robots enter public view in a more approachable, topical way. For fashion brands, a robot attracts social media attention; for robotics companies, the runway is a brand testing ground outside industrial settings. As humanoids move toward general-purpose use, culture, entertainment, and fashion may complement commercialization and public acceptance.
