Semiconductor Sector Slumps on Philadelphia Index and Memory Stocks; Robotics Rally, Dividends Stay Strong
October 19, A-share indices closed mixed. The Shanghai Composite rose 0.39% to 3,730.92, the Shenzhen Component gained 0.13% to 11,817.42, the ChiNext fell 0.94% to 2,746.29, and the STAR 50 dropped 2.17% to 1,329.19. Trading volume across the Shanghai and Shenzhen markets totaled 1.44 trillion yuan, down about 120 billion yuan from the previous session.
The semiconductor sector weakened, pressured by declines in the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index and memory chip stocks. In contrast, robotics concept stocks emerged as a market highlight, while dividend stocks continued to show resilience. A total of 2,275 stocks advanced.
Analysts attributed the semiconductor adjustment to overseas market weakness and the memory stock selloff, while the robotics sector was supported by expectations of supportive industrial policies. The market displayed a structural trend, with capital rotating among sectors.
