China Sets First Global Legged Robot Standard, Accelerating Trillion-Yuan Embodied AI
According to a report by Dahe Finance Cube, the world's first international standard for legged robots has been officially released. Titled "Robotics — Performance criteria and related test methods for service robots — Part 5: Locomotion of legged robots," the standard was spearheaded by Chinese experts and establishes a unified global evaluation system for the first time. It covers key aspects such as locomotion performance and testing methods, providing an authoritative benchmark for the development and testing of legged service robots and enhancing cross-border interoperability.
This milestone is part of China's broader strategy to lead in embodied intelligence standardization. In February, China issued its inaugural "Humanoid Robot and Embodied Intelligence Standard System (2026 Edition)," which outlines a comprehensive framework spanning fundamental commonalities, key components, and industrial applications. This was followed by other standards such as the "Overall Architecture of Robot Intelligent Control Systems," accelerating the formation of a complete ecosystem.
Industry experts say standardization is critical for the trillion-yuan embodied intelligence sector. Unified standards lower R&D costs and promote product interoperability, particularly in sectors like logistics, healthcare, and manufacturing, where standardized robots can be deployed more rapidly. By leading the way in setting international standards, China is not only showcasing technological prowess but also shaping global rules, offering a "China solution" for the worldwide embodied intelligence industry.
