Omron to Acquire US Industrial PC Maker for $675M in Physical AI Push
Omron has agreed to acquire a U.S. industrial computer maker and its parent company for about $675 million, with the transaction expected to close around January. The Japanese automation giant plans to combine the acquired company’s industrial PCs with its own sensing, robotics and high-precision control technologies to accelerate development of a next-generation physical AI platform. Omron also expects the deal to fill a gap in edge computing, where industrial equipment processes data locally to reduce latency and improve reliability. Such edge capability is increasingly important as AI moves from software into factory floors and real-world machines. The acquisition reflects a broader push among automation vendors to add computing at the edge, complementing controllers, sensors and robotics. The move is aimed at linking perception, decision-making and motion control in real-world systems. The companies did not disclose further financial details, and the deal remains subject to customary closing conditions.
