Six Chinese Departments Push Frontier Tech for Elderly Care
The measures were jointly issued by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Commerce, State Administration for Market Regulation, and National Aging Office. The document, titled "Several Measures on Cultivating Diverse Scenarios to Promote Consumption of Age-Friendly Products," aims to boost the silver economy.
The policy calls for leveraging national major science and technology projects to accelerate the application of frontier technologies—including embodied AI, large language models, brain-computer interfaces, and exoskeletons—in elderly care. It also seeks to develop and upgrade intelligent devices for disability care, rehabilitation nursing, and mental companionship.
Analysts expect the initiative to improve the quality of life for older adults while stimulating consumption and innovation in the age-friendly products sector.
