New Policy Shifts WRC 2026 Focus from Robot Stunts to Real-World Applications

The 2026 World Robot Conference (WRC) convened from August 19–23 in Beijing's Yizhuang area, with the theme 'Human-Machine Coexistence, Industry-Demand Integration.' The event featured over 300 companies, more than 3,000 exhibits, and over 300 debut products, marking one of the largest robotics gatherings in the region.

A notable departure from earlier editions was the absence of flashy performances such as somersaults and tai chi routines. Instead, attendees saw robots engaged in production line simulations and other practical tasks. This change is attributed to a new policy on 'real-scenario training' (实景实训), which prioritizes tangible industrial applications over entertainment.

The shift reflects a broader maturation of the robotics industry, as companies increasingly focus on real-world functionality and deployment efficiency. According to observers, the trend indicates a move toward robots that can directly address manufacturing and service demands, signaling a more practical direction for future development.
