World Robot Conference Highlights Practical Robots Over Entertainment

The 2026 World Robot Conference, under the theme 'Human-Machine Symbiosis, Production and Demand Integration,' took place in Beijing earlier this week. The event brought together more than 300 domestic and international companies, which displayed over 3,000 products, including 311 first-release models.

In a notable departure from previous years—when robots performing music, dance, and backflips commanded the audience's attention—this year's exhibition focused on practical, work-oriented robots. Attendees were particularly drawn to robots capable of tightening screws on production lines and sorting goods in warehouses, highlighting a broader industry shift from entertainment to real-world applications.

Xu Xiaolan, chairman of the Chinese Institute of Electronics, noted that the robotics sector is accelerating its transition from the exhibition hall to the factory floor. She emphasized that future progress will depend on enhancing operational efficiency and addressing genuine market demands. The conference's theme underscores the growing importance of human-robot collaboration and the synchronization of production with consumption, pointing to a more integrated robotics ecosystem in manufacturing.
