Physical Intelligence Funding Slump Prompts Call to Rebuild Finance for Robotics Era
With physical intelligence investment cooling, a well-known startup incubator is urging the robotics sector to build a new financial infrastructure. The incubator argues that conventional fundraising, which relies on revenue figures and demo screenshots, is poorly suited to embodied AI firms that carry heavy assets and long development cycles.
It points to a structural mismatch: robotics companies must fund expensive hardware, lengthy testing, safety validation and manufacturing ramp-up before meaningful revenue arrives. Software-style venture metrics and short exit horizons may underprice capital expenditure and time-to-market. The incubator calls on investors, lenders and policymakers to develop patient capital, equipment financing, risk-sharing tools and valuation benchmarks tailored to physical AI. The warning comes as deal activity cools, raising concerns that promising robotics startups could struggle to finance pilots and scale production.
