WRC 2026 Opens: Industry Shifts to Real Work as Chery Mica Robots Deploy

The 2026 World Robot Conference opened on August 19 at the Beijing Yichuang International Convention and Exhibition Center in Yizhuang, Beijing. Over 300 companies and 2,000 exhibits filled nearly 50,000 square meters of exhibition space. Humanoid robots, quadruped robots, and robotic arms performed dances, flips, and handshakes across various booths, creating a lively and festive atmosphere.

However, a contrasting scene unfolded at the booth of Chery's Mica robots. According to China Business Journal, the Mica robots were not engaged in showy performances but instead demonstrated practical applications, such as welding and material handling in industrial settings. This shift reflects a broader industry trend where robotics developers are prioritizing functional value over entertainment, moving from stage tricks to real-work capabilities.
