Tiangong Robot's Athletic Prowess Marks First Step Toward Human Service
During the second World Humanoid Robot Games, Tiangong robots delivered outstanding performances in track races, repeatedly breaking records. In a post-competition statement, the Omni research and development team noted that as humanoid robots' locomotion increasingly approaches human levels, they become capable of undertaking tasks similar to those performed by humans, making practical deployment more seamless.
The team revealed that the next phase focuses on enhancing interaction with complex environments and specific objects. "This aspect has not been extensively developed in humanoid robots, especially when external conditions are challenging or introduce disturbances," they explained. "The goal is to enable robots to handle such situations autonomously." The researchers likened current humanoid robots to "three-year-old children," suggesting that overcoming these technical hurdles would allow humanoid robots to be applied across numerous scenarios.
