Westlake Robotics Technology (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd. was founded in 2021 and is the first commercial spin-off of Westlake University's artificial intelligence and robotics research. It was founded by Professor Wang Donglin, deputy head of the university's AI department and chief scientist of a national 2030 science-and-technology program; co-founder and chief scientist Zhang Yue is vice dean of the School of Engineering and an ACL Fellow (2025). The Hangzhou-based company closed four funding rounds totaling RMB 500 million within six months, followed by a Series A1 round in the hundreds of millions of RMB in September 2026.

Products & tech

A full-stack trinity of general-purpose brain, humanoid whole-body cerebellum and self-developed humanoid body. The brain side includes the LM-VLM multimodal motion-manipulation model and WR1, a whole-body unified foundation model that combines vision-language-action architectures with world models. The cerebellum is GAE, a general action expert system enabling programming-free motion generalization and one-operator-many-robots remote operation. Hardware includes the Westlake o1 humanoid (launched as Titan o1, the first robot powered by GAE, with a folding body and modular architecture) and the Aotian U1 quadruped, plus in-house joint motor modules.

Market position

One of the representative players on the end-to-end brain-and-cerebellum route. Pilot deployments span research and education, entertainment, power-grid inspection, emergency response and textile manufacturing, and the company has partnerships with Alibaba, Intel and JD.com. It is a recognized Zhejiang specialized SME and national high-tech enterprise, and was named among China's top 30 most promising robotics companies for 2025.
