GBA Science Forum Brings Five Embodied Intelligence Projects to Dongguan
On September 15, the Greater Bay Area Science Forum held a special event at Great Bay University in Dongguan, focusing on the precise matching of scientific and technological achievements in embodied intelligence. The event was organized by the GBA Science Forum Secretariat and the GBA Science and Technology Innovation Service Center, in collaboration with Great Bay University, and guided by the Dongguan Science and Technology Bureau.
The event featured policy briefings, platform introductions, a Lingshan Science Lecture, achievement roadshows, enterprise needs releases, and tripartite matchmaking. Representatives from government, universities, enterprises, and technology managers attended.
During the roadshow, five projects were showcased: a full-stack solution for embodied intelligent robots, an unmanned autonomous and multi-terrain robot system, a cross-scale autonomous diagnosis and treatment robot, dynamic materials, and a spatial intelligence engine. These projects cover embodied intelligence body solutions, multi-terrain mobile platforms, medical diagnosis and treatment applications, material support, and underlying spatial intelligence technologies. Enterprise representatives showed keen interest, leading to frequent interactions.
After the roadshow, enterprise representatives introduced their needs regarding technical challenges, talent recruitment, and funding. Then, enterprises, university representatives, and technology managers engaged in tripartite matchmaking. At the end, guests visited the Great Bay University campus and the Embodied Intelligence Laboratory.
Feng Bin, Deputy Party Secretary of Great Bay University, said in his speech that the university is positioned as a small, elite, high-level, and international science and engineering institution, adhering to a "University+" model. It has developed cooperation models such as project-based collaboration, joint university-enterprise laboratories, joint research, and talent co-cultivation. Lian Bin, head of the Scientific Research Department, introduced the university's research and cooperation. Dai Weixing, Section Chief of the Achievement Transformation and Regional Innovation Section of the Dongguan Science and Technology Bureau, explained the "Dongguan Implementation Measures for the Transformation of Scientific and Technological Achievements." The tripartite matchmaking arrangement brings university achievements, enterprise needs, and technology managers together to address information asymmetry in technology transfer.
He Jianfei, an industry professor at the School of Information Science and Technology at Great Bay University, gave a talk titled "AI Innovation in the Post-DeepSeek Era" at the Lingshan Science Lecture. He argued that China must and will be a winner in embodied intelligence. His reasoning is twofold: embodied intelligence can address the needs of an aging population and labor shortages, and it aligns well with China's complete manufacturing supply chain.
The GBA Science Forum's "Into" series has previously visited Nansha, Huangpu, Hengqin, Macao, Foshan, and Huizhou, and will continue to other cities in the Greater Bay Area. The logic is to efficiently link research resources, technological achievements, and enterprise application scenarios. Dongguan has a strong manufacturing base and numerous application scenarios for embodied intelligence. Placing the technology transfer event in Dongguan corresponds to the city's position in the industrial chain. Whether the five roadshow projects can find matching enterprises and scenarios in Dongguan will better demonstrate the event's actual effectiveness than the roadshow itself.
