Meta Partners with China's Fourier to Develop Humanoid Robot Prototype
Meta has reportedly partnered with Chinese robotics firm Fourier to develop a humanoid robot prototype in about three months, according to a report by Chinese media outlet Yicai. The robot, internally called Max, weighs approximately 48 kilograms and is designed for internal research and experimentation.
The collaboration has moved quickly, with both parties already working on a second version. Meta's Vice President of Robotics Product, Li-Chen Miller, spent nearly two months at Fourier's Shanghai factory, underscoring close cooperation.
When contacted for comment, Fourier's founder and CEO, Gu Jie, declined to provide details, stating that it was not convenient to respond at this time. The news underscores Meta's growing ambitions in humanoid robotics and its willingness to collaborate with Chinese companies despite broader geopolitical tensions.
The rapid development timeline is notable, as building a humanoid robot typically takes years. Meta has been increasing its investments in AI and robotics, viewing humanoid robots as a key future platform. Fourier, based in Shanghai, specializes in rehabilitation and exoskeleton robots and has been expanding into humanoid robotics.
