China Accounts for Over 90% of Global Quadruped Robot Market as Unitree Leads
On Sept. 21, Counterpoint Research released a report showing that global quadruped robot shipments reached nearly 35,000 units in the first half of 2026, with 40% of those units used in industry applications. The report highlights that the category is moving beyond early experimentation into commercial deployment, with industry use cases becoming a key part of the market.
Chinese companies contributed more than 90% of the global quadruped robot market. That share is similar to the humanoid robot landscape, indicating that China also holds an absolutely dominant position in the quadruped category. The concentration underscores the strength of China's supply chain and robotics ecosystem, giving domestic vendors a strong base for further expansion.
In terms of vendor landscape, Unitree Robotics ranked first with a 37% market share. Its early-mover advantage in entertainment and education, combined with self-developed core hardware, helped entertainment and education applications account for more than 70% of its shipments. Unitree's accumulation in quadruped robots predates its humanoid robot efforts. Starting from consumer robot dogs, the company built channels and brand recognition in performances, education and research scenarios.
Within the industrial application segment, the competitive landscape differs. AgiBot Kuotuo led with a 16.3% share, DEEP Robotics ranked second with 26%, and Zhishen Technology ranked third in overall shipments. AgiBot Kuotuo was founded in August 2025 and focuses on core industrial application scenarios, with nearly 70% of its market in the B-end. DEEP Robotics has deep experience in power inspection and rail transit, and its share in industrial applications is higher than its position in overall shipments.
The report forecasts that global quadruped robot shipments will exceed 90,000 units for the first time in 2026, with full-year revenue expected to reach $1.5 billion. By 2030, the global market is expected to surpass $10 billion, with a compound annual growth rate above 60%. Industrial inspection and security patrol are expected to account for about 60% of that market. That growth would mark a significant acceleration from current levels, driven by sustained demand for automation in hazardous and repetitive tasks.
Counterpoint believes that industry applications are becoming the core engine driving industry scale. General embodied models will redefine the capability boundaries of quadruped robots. Competition among leading companies is shifting from body motion performance to the delivery capability of vertical scenario solutions. That shift is already visible in how vendors position their products and target customers.
This judgment corresponds to a turning point the quadruped robot industry is undergoing. Early competition focused on motion ability: who could run faster, jump higher and walk more stably. As body technology matures, customers are starting to focus on whether robots can work stably in specific inspection tasks, connect to existing management systems, and reduce the cost of manual inspection. In inspections, for example, reliability and integration with existing workflows matter more than peak speed.
The shift in competitive focus means that delivery capability in industry applications will become more important than motion parameters. Unitree's share lead in entertainment and education does not fully overlap with its position in industry applications. This also shows that the quadruped robot market is differentiating into distinct sub-tracks, each with different requirements for product capabilities. Vendors that can tailor solutions to specific verticals are likely to gain an edge as the market matures.
Overall, the quadruped robot market is entering a phase where scale, vertical know-how and ecosystem integration matter more than raw agility. China's dominant share gives its vendors a broad base to iterate, while the industrial segment offers higher barriers and stickier demand. The coming years will test whether leading players can translate hardware leadership into repeatable, sector-specific solutions.
