DEEP Robotics Lynx Wheel-Legged Robot Conquers 55°C Desert Terrain
While traditional wheeled vehicles sink into soft sand or halt before steep slopes, an industrial robot from Hangzhou, China, is traversing the red desert. The Lynx's core design fuses two locomotion modes. This configuration also excels in narrow spaces—the front-elbow-rear-knee symmetrical design allows the Lynx M20S to pass through a mere 50 cm wide corridor without turning, solving issues where large vehicles cannot maneuver in vineyards and tricycles are constrained by row spacing.
The robot series can operate continuously in temperatures from -30°C to 55°C and boasts IP66 dustproof and waterproof ratings. The Lynx M20, for instance, weighs 33 kg, has a 15 kg payload capacity, supports up to 50 kg static load, and runs for 2.5 hours under load. Its dual 96-line LiDAR and dual-frequency cameras enable real-time detection of rocks, potholes, and other obstacles, adjusting trajectories to minimize bumpiness and damage during transport.
