StarCan Intelligence Raises Four Rounds in One Year with Wheelchair Robot

In the embodied AI sector, most companies are crowding into demo-grade humanoid robots. StarCan Intelligence has chosen a different path: wheelchair robots.

In only one year since its founding, the company completed four rapid funding rounds, each at tens of millions of yuan—a fast pace for a hard-tech startup.

Li Zhanbin of StarCan Intelligence argues that after entering a precise niche, building a hardcore mass-production team and a clear industrial deployment logic is most important.

StarCan Intelligence's core team comes from Alibaba, Baidu, XPeng and Geely, with years in autonomous driving and robotics. It has capabilities in algorithm R&D, software iteration and hardware mass-production delivery.

On the investor side, the company is backed by listed industrial capital leaders in robot joint modules and mobile chassis, including Jiechang and Yate. Li Zhanbin says that compared with financial investors, industrial capital places more value on technology deployment, supply-chain synergy and commercialization closed-loop potential.

That difference has had a practical effect: from the start, StarCan focused on building a supply chain centered on hardware robots. Relying on industrial capital resources, it carries out product R&D and delivery directly at mass-production pricing, quality standards and supply-chain stability, avoiding mass-production risk at the source, shortening deployment cycles and lowering hardware costs. Most companies first raise financial funding and then connect with the supply chain; StarCan reversed that order.

The core product XcanMateX is positioned as an intelligent travel companion robot, subverting the traditional smart wheelchair's mobility-only role. Traditional wheelchairs offer only basic movement. XcanMateX uses multi-camera vision plus LiDAR fusion perception and OCC occupancy grid technology to enable autonomous navigation, active obstacle avoidance and intelligent route planning in complex dynamic scenes such as hospitals and communities, without continuous manual control.

Based on the self-developed Xcan brain world model, it supports intelligent voice interaction and precise environmental perception, integrating travel assistance, health reminders and daily care. It handles indoor and outdoor travel, features aging-friendly safety design, and reserves multi-sensor expansion interfaces such as spectral sensing. It is an upgradeable intelligent platform that breaks the traditional hardware model of one-time sale and fixed functions. The product logic is to turn a wheelchair from a transport tool into a mobile living space for the silver-haired population.

At Germany's IFA international show, StarCan Intelligence won the top prize in the 2026 IFA Innovation Award Tech for Good and Accessibility category, and also received an IFA NEXT Honor. Winning two track awards with one product reflects recognition in both function definition and product completeness.

For overseas markets, Li Zhanbin analyzes that Europe has a high aging rate, strong demand for intelligent elderly care, and a high proportion of manual wheelchairs. StarCan is targeting that market precisely. It has already engaged deeply with several local elderly-care robot distributors, discussing channel cooperation and intended orders, and plans to use elderly-care B2B products as an entry point before gradually extending to the overseas C-end market.

Domestically, the company has entered hospitals, elderly-care institutions and retirement communities, with multiple medical institutions working with StarCan on demonstration deployment and scenario debugging.

Funding will go in three directions: continuing to iterate the Xcan brain hierarchical decision world model, advancing engineering pilot and mass-production preparation across the product line, and accelerating domestic and overseas channel building. The company has launched a Pre-A round, planning to raise RMB 50 million to 60 million.

Li Zhanbin notes that the industry currently focuses mostly on smart travel scenarios for younger groups, somewhat neglecting elderly travel, social and care needs. StarCan is applying mature spatial intelligence and embodied AI to the silver-haired track. Whether that market space and payment capacity can be realized will next depend on actual deployment results in hospitals and elderly-care institutions.
