SenseTime's SenseMart Launches SenseMart OS, a Retail Robot Operating System
On September 23, SenseMart, SenseTime's smart retail subsidiary, launched SenseMart OS, a physical operating system for retail, in Shanghai. The system uses the SenseMart Go robot store as its carrier, connecting upstream robot manufacturers and downstream unmanned retail operators and franchisees. More than 20 stores have already opened in several Chinese cities, forming a complete business loop from hardware to system to store.
Huang Di, chairman and CEO of SenseMart, said that PCs gained an operating system and thus a software industry; smartphones gained an operating system and thus the mobile internet. Embodied intelligence is reaching the same threshold. Robots can grasp and move, completing just one action in an order; real operations also require recognizing products, managing inventory, handling payments, and resolving exceptions.
SenseMart OS comprises three modules. The Retail Brain builds a see, ask, think, and act framework with four core capabilities: perception, interaction, decision-making, and execution, working together for customer experience and store profitability. The Heterogeneous Body Platform connects different forms of equipment such as robotic arms, grippers, dexterous hands, and humanoid robots, with device form determined by task requirements. The Data Hub collects daily result-oriented data from real stores, then trains, validates, and deploys it to form a sustainable iterative loop.
Leveraging SenseTime's AI expertise, SenseMart has accumulated visual assets for over 300,000 product types and continuously refines the system through real robot store operations, completing an order in as little as 15 seconds.
Using the SenseMart Go robot store as a carrier, SenseMart OS has been tested in five real-world scenarios. On campus, the Shanghai Theatre Academy and SenseMart collaborate on an innovative demonstration of art education and embodied retail integration. In a commercial complex, a store has opened at Shanghai Bailian South Shopping Center. In urban culture, Taizhou Culture and Tourism and SenseMart promote the integration of Taizhou morning tea culture with embodied intelligent retail. In addition, COFCO Zhishang is integrating central SOE food supply capabilities with embodied intelligence, and Ubox is working with SenseMart on unmanned retail supply chains and intelligent operations networks.
So far, SenseMart Go has opened more than 20 stores in Shanghai, Hefei, Shenzhen, Qingdao, Yancheng, and other cities, covering commercial complexes, industrial parks, office buildings, sports events, festivals, scenic areas, and urban public spaces.
Upstream, SenseMart has deepened cooperation with Lingciyuan Robotics and Daxiao Robotics; different robot bodies already handle picking, delivery, and order fulfillment in SenseMart Go stores. Downstream, SenseMart has partnered with COFCO Zhishang, Ubox, Shengma, Zhiyun, Anlaiye, and Gouya to launch the Thousand Cities, Ten Thousand Stores plan. Under the plan, SenseMart provides the SenseMart Go robot store and SenseMart OS product and technology foundation, while operators and franchisees handle regional expansion and daily store operations.
Xu Li, chairman and CEO of SenseTime, said that SenseTime's vision and multimodal capabilities are extending into the physical world. Intelligence in the physical world must face real environments, action execution, and result feedback, requiring teams that understand both technology and operations to take on vertical scenarios.
