Xidian University and Intellifusion Launch Embodied Intelligence Joint Lab
On the afternoon of September 20, Xidian University and Shenzhen Intellifusion Technologies Co., Ltd. held an unveiling ceremony for the Xidian-Intellifusion Embodied Intelligence Joint Laboratory. The event marks a significant milestone in their collaboration, aiming to advance research and development in the rapidly evolving field of embodied intelligence.
The ceremony was attended by Xidian President Gao Xinbo, Intellifusion Chairman and CEO Chen Ning, and CTO Li Aijun, along with other representatives from both organizations.
In his remarks, President Gao Xinbo emphasized Xidian's deep educational heritage and its outstanding strengths in electronic information disciplines. He noted that the university is currently focusing on the frontier of embodied intelligence, building a comprehensive research system that spans the entire chain from basic research to application.
Gao stated that the joint laboratory represents a significant measure to leverage complementary advantages between academia and industry and to respond to national strategic needs. He expressed hope that both sides will concentrate on collaborative breakthroughs in core technologies, deepen industry-education integration to cultivate talent, and promote the efficient transformation of research achievements into practical applications.
The establishment of the joint lab underscores the growing importance of embodied intelligence, a field that integrates artificial intelligence, robotics, and cognitive science to create systems that can perceive, reason, and act in the physical world. Both partners bring distinct strengths to the table: Xidian's academic excellence and Intellifusion's industrial expertise in AI chips and algorithms. The unveiling follows a series of collaborations between the two organizations, reflecting a broader trend of industry-academia partnerships in China's technology sector.
The collaboration's direction covers AI chips and intelligent computing. During the event, Chen Ning remarked that Intellifusion and Xidian have long maintained a strong partnership, having previously conducted in-depth cooperation in artificial intelligence, integrated circuits, and deep space exploration, achieving a series of notable results.
Looking ahead, the two parties will leverage their respective advantages in research innovation, talent cultivation, and industrial practice to expand long-term cooperation in AI chips, intelligent computing, and embodied intelligence. This partnership aims to drive innovation and address key challenges in these fields.
At a symposium held as part of the event, Intellifusion CTO Li Aijun and Xidian Professor Ding Xinpeng shared insights on embodied intelligence trends and core technologies. Li discussed the topic from the perspective of industry frontiers, while Ding provided an academic research viewpoint, offering a comprehensive overview of the field's development.
The joint laboratory model, which has become increasingly common in embodied intelligence, pairs enterprises that provide industrial scenarios and engineering capabilities with universities that offer basic research and talent. This synergy is crucial for advancing the field, as it bridges the gap between theoretical research and practical implementation.
This cooperation addresses a realistic challenge: competition in embodied intelligence is shifting from isolated technological breakthroughs to comprehensive capabilities spanning chips, algorithms, systems, and scenarios. To succeed, companies must integrate expertise across these domains.
Intellifusion, which started with AI chips, is likely to enter embodied intelligence through computing platforms and chips. Xidian's accumulated expertise in electronic information can support chip architecture design, algorithm optimization, and system integration, complementing Intellifusion's industrial strengths.
The two sides also exchanged views on project research and development, talent training, and ecosystem cooperation, laying a foundation for future collaborative projects. This joint effort is expected to accelerate the translation of research into commercial applications, fostering innovation in China's embodied intelligence ecosystem. The joint lab will serve as a platform for joint research projects, student internships, and technology transfer, further strengthening the ties between academia and industry. As embodied intelligence continues to evolve, such partnerships are expected to play a critical role in driving innovation and maintaining competitiveness.
