Apptronik was founded in 2016 as a U.S. humanoid robot development company spun out of the Human Centered Robotics Lab at the University of Texas at Austin.

The company's technological roots trace back to NASA's early Valkyrie humanoid robot project.

In 2023, Apptronik launched its first commercial humanoid robot, Apollo; in 2024, it began collaborating with Mercedes-Benz to test industrial applications.

In February 2026, the company completed a $520 million funding round, bringing its total Series A funding to over $935 million.

In June of the same year, it unveiled a new humanoid robot, Apollo 2.

Apptronik ranked 196th on the 2026 Global Unicorn List with a valuation of $34 billion.
