Shenzhen's Xingcan Smart Brings Autonomous Driving to Elder-Care Wheelchair at APEC
At the APEC First Senior Officials' Meeting's supporting technology experience event in February, Shenzhen tech company Xingcan Smart joined the Shenzhen delegation to present an elderly-care robot solution. The system applies autonomous-driving technology to a wheelchair, rather than copying humanoid forms.
The domestic elderly-care robotics sector currently has many firms clustered around humanoid designs. These efforts often prioritize human-like appearance while paying less attention to mass production, raising questions about how such robots can truly enter ordinary homes.
Xingcan Smart's approach takes a different route. By combining autonomous driving with a wheelchair platform, the company aims to address mobility and daily assistance for older adults in a more practical, scalable form.
The APEC appearance gave the Shenzhen startup early exposure on an international stage. It also signals that elderly-care robotics may diversify beyond humanoids as companies seek viable products for aging societies.
