Tesla Accelerates Optimus Robot Mass Production with New China Supply Chain Audit

Supply chain sources say a Tesla team arrived in Ningbo on Sept. 16 and began a fresh round of factory audits for its robot business on Sept. 17. The audits are tied to Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot program and focus on mass-production readiness.

Earlier supply chain reports indicated Tesla would launch the reviews in September. The goal is to examine the exclusivity and consistency of Optimus production, while helping suppliers with equipment debugging and migrating manufacturing capabilities from Tesla's U.S. factory.

The latest audit suggests Tesla is accelerating efforts to bring Optimus toward volume production. By working closely with Chinese suppliers, the company aims to ensure that key components and processes can meet the demands of large-scale manufacturing.

The Ningbo visit is part of a broader supplier qualification process. Tesla is reportedly seeking to replicate proven U.S. manufacturing methods in China and align partners on quality and output targets. The audits also reflect the growing role of China's supply chain in Tesla's robotics ambitions, as the automaker pushes to move Optimus from prototype development to commercial deployment.
