1X Technologies is a Norwegian robotics startup backed by OpenAI.
The company was founded by Bernt Øivind in 2014 under the name Halodi Robotics, initially supplying safety actuators and whole-body control systems to the robotics industry.
It released its first wheeled humanoid robot, EVE, in 2018, and in 2022 rebranded as 1X Technologies, shifting its focus toward developing home robots.
The turning point for the company came in March 2023, when OpenAI invested, drawing prominent funds such as Tiger Global, EQT Ventures, and Samsung NEXT into its shareholder base.
In 2026, 1X opened a new factory in Hayward, California, with the goal of producing 10,000 home robots within a year.
Its latest home robot, Neo Gamma, drew widespread attention for its woven nylon shell.
The company has moved its headquarters from Norway to Palo Alto, California.
