Rainbow Robotics was founded in 2011 by researchers from the Humanoid Robot Research Center at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), emerging from the HUBO Laboratory that built Korea's first bipedal humanoid robot, "Hubo."

In 2015, its DRC-HUBO won the DARPA Robotics Challenge, marking a major technological breakthrough.

The company focuses on the research, development, manufacturing, and sales of collaborative robots, dual-arm mobile manipulators, and autonomous mobile robots, with its flagship product being the RB-Y1 mobile dual-arm robot.

Between 2023 and 2024, Samsung Electronics gradually acquired a stake in Rainbow Robotics and took control, making it a subsidiary.
