AheadForm is a Shanghai-based humanoid robotics company founded in June 2024, building hyper-realistic bionic robots around facial expression and emotional interaction.
The company was founded by Yuhang Hu, a Columbia University PhD who previously worked on the Emo robotic head at the Creative Machines Lab. It closed an angel round in October 2024 and has since raised from Shunwei Capital, China Internet Investment Fund, Ant Group, China Merchants Venture, Shenzhen Capital Group, AgiBot, CITIC GoldStone Investment and Geely Capital, among others. Its registered capital is RMB 2.70636 million.
The lineup splits in two. The Origin series covers desktop interaction terminals: Origin F1 is shipping, using 26 degrees of freedom to drive head, eye and facial motion, with skin that shows veins and fine muscle movement; Origin M1 is listed as coming soon. The Elf series covers full-size bionic robots: Elf·Xuan has more than 30 facial degrees of freedom and in-house silicone skin accurate to within 0.5 mm, and Elf·Xuan 2.0 adds independently controlled waist, upper arm and forearm motion. AheadForm develops its own bionic skin, facial drive motors and facial motion algorithms, and offers makeup, hair and costume customization.
The robots target long-dwell interaction settings such as brand showcases, reception service, exhibition performances and IP collaborations, which sets them apart from humanoids built around locomotion or general-purpose platforms. Elf·Xuan performed an original song at a robot gala produced by AgiBot, and the company worked with NetEase's Justice Online to turn a game character into a full-scale bionic robot.
