China's Social Logistics Value Up 4.9% in Jan-Aug, Reaching 243.6 Trillion Yuan
The China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing released data for the first eight months of 2024, showing that the total value of social logistics reached 243.6 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.9%. This steady growth, coupled with structural optimization, highlights the resilience of China's industrial and supply chains.
Specifically, industrial logistics remained a stable foundation, with the total value of industrial goods logistics rising 5.3% year-on-year. Demand for upgraded industrial manufacturing logistics accelerated. In August, the value added of high-tech manufacturing and digital product manufacturing grew by 16.7% and 15.7% respectively, contributing over 60% to the growth of industrial enterprises above designated size. Industrial robot production surged by 34.6%, jointly driving new logistics demand.
The data indicates that China's logistics sector is not only expanding but also shifting toward higher value-added and technology-intensive segments. The strong performance of high-tech manufacturing and industrial robots suggests a broader industrial upgrading trend, which is likely to sustain logistics demand in the coming months. The continued growth in social logistics value, despite global economic uncertainties, underscores the robustness of domestic demand and supply chain capabilities. Analysts note that the acceleration in high-tech manufacturing and digital product manufacturing is particularly significant, as these sectors typically have higher logistics intensity and value contribution. The surge in industrial robot production also signals increasing automation and smart manufacturing, which could further boost logistics efficiency and demand for specialized logistics services. Overall, the logistics data reflects a stable recovery in China's economy, with structural improvements supporting long-term resilience.
